Let’s pretend you’re looking for a new job. Your online reputation will be checked by the hiring manager. You’re well aware of this. They’ll look at your LinkedIn connections to assess how effectively you connect. Some of your Facebook status posts will be read by them. They’ll be able to see your public pictures. They will see you as a brand.


If there’s a blog with your name on it, they’ll definitely want to check it out. They will be impressed if you are influential on social media.


They’re almost scrutinizing your own brand.

The human brand is an important part of the process when it comes to professional advancement.

Create a Personal Brand



1. Be a Human Being


When it comes to Instagram influencers, this is an interesting phenomenon: they are very pleasant and approachable when they first start establishing their following, but after their accounts get big, they become too cool to notice normal people. They begin to act as though they are flawless human beings. You see gorgeous photographs of some of the world’s most beautiful destinations on their accounts. This is partly due to their travels, but it is also due to the fact that they hire experienced photographers to capture and edit their photographs.


This is not the way to build a true human brand. You don’t want to imitate someone else’s personality. You want to demonstrate what makes you truly distinctive.


Emotions are what motivate people. When you post anything on the internet, it’s because it made you feel something. It needs to demonstrate your emotional side, whether it’s a snapshot of your puppy, a nice moment captured during a trip, or a heartfelt post from Humans of New York. It can’t be phony, since people will see right through your motives.


2. Pay Attention to Others


One of the most crucial human characteristics is the ability to listen. You want to pay attention to what others are saying.


You’ll be sharing a lot of opinions on social media once you start building your personal brand. You’ll receive both praise and criticism. Be willing to listen to both sides and rethink your strategy if it becomes necessary.


3. Know how to tell a good story


When you look at people that have strong personal brands, such as Richard Branson, you’ll see that they have tales to tell. People’s feelings are best expressed through stories. People will relate to you if you share something powerful from personal experience. They’ll remember you and rally around your personal brand.


When it comes to developing a personal brand, writing abilities are crucial. “You have to provide folks a decent foundation for recognizing a brand behind your name if you want them to recognize it. You’re taking your fans on a journey through your daily life with each post on social media or on your blog.”


Simple moments can be transformed into epic tales. Discuss how your favorite book influenced your life. Share a big epiphany that resulted in significant changes in your life. Discuss how you decided on a career path. Make your life into a compelling story for others to hear.


4. Communicate with others


You’re not going to establish a blog, go on social media, and start bragging about yourself. The process of developing a personal brand is not linear. If you don’t engage with other people, you won’t be able to display your human side.


Allow them to ask questions and receive real responses. You want to repay the favor, just as you want them to listen to your story. You want to encourage them to share their stories. Not because you want your comment box to be crowded, but because that’s what a human would do.


5. Share your expertise


People are unlikely to be interested in your personal brand simply because you created it. Only if you’re unique will you pique their curiosity. That is why you must choose a niche and demonstrate that you are an expert in it.


If you travel frequently, for example, you might make travel the focal point of your branding effort. Instead of simply sharing images, you want to offer something more: share your expertise of those locations. Remember, you’re looking for interaction. You want people to interrogate you. They will only do so if they believe you are capable of responding.

Demonstrate your expertise! This can be done via your blog, Instagram stories, Facebook posts, or even eBooks.


A Personal Brand is Required for Everyone.


Whatever the case may be, having a strong personal brand will only help you. So now is the time to consider transforming yourself into a brand. This will be a brand similar to any other, with the exception of being more human.
